High Risk New Born Clinic

At Dharaskar Children Hospital & Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s High Risk Newborn Clinic sees children who have been critically ill as newborns or are just out of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and who may be in need of follow-up special care and assistance. These children require continued follow-up from various specialists to begin individualized need-specific interventions early to optimize their outcomes.

Our High Risk Newborn Clinic enables parents to maintain an active role in their children’s care while allowing them to achieve their full potential.

Who is “At-Risk”

“At-Risk” infants are usually those who are born prematurely, are seriously ill as newborns, or have shown developmental delays in the first year of life. They are at risk for problems with language, hearing, sight, feedings, behavioral, motor, and intellectual development.

Early identification of these potential problems is essential to ensure a child’s optimal development. Our High Risk Newborn Clinic evaluates children across multiple disciplines to address developmental concerns and helps provide referrals to specialists as needed.

The High-Risk Infant/Neonatal Service, of the Dharaskar Children Hospital & Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, provides ongoing developmental, behavioral, and growth assessment and follow-up for infants at high risk for growth and developmental issues due to conditions in the newborn period that required care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Our multidisciplinary team of experts represents neonatology, developmental-behavioral pediatrics, social work, nutrition, nursing, and occupational and physical therapy. Each member has extensive experience in addressing the ongoing needs of families faced with caring for their medically complex infant. Services are provided in our Dharaskar Children Hospital.
