NICU Follow up Clinic

banner4The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU, Follow-up Clinic specializes in monitoring the growth and development of babies who have needed NICU care. Although most of our babies do quite well in the long run, we have found that early treatment and referral of babies with potential problems ensures that each child has the best chance for normal growth and development. The Clinic also provides education and support to families who use these services.

Babies who spend time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) may need specialized follow-up care after discharge. Research has shown that neonatal developmental care can improve neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Neonatologists, developmental pediatricians and nurse practitioners with the NICU Follow-up Clinic at Dharaskar Children Hospital evaluate and support the developmental needs of premature infants or medically complex babies. Our goal is to identify developmental delays early and connect the family with the appropriate interventions to prevent long-term developmental problems.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Nearly 25% of newborns in Nagpur are born to high-risk mothers; 11% of whom are premature. The NICU provides comprehensive care with the coordinated efforts of social workers, occupational therapists, nutritionists, respiratory therapists, neonatal nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal-perinatal fellows, attending neonatologists and pediatricians.

Neonatal Follow-Up Program.

The Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic provides assessments and clinical management of high risk infants from birth to nine years of age, offering comprehensive follow-up care for neonates discharged from our neonatal programs and rehabilitation services for infants with physical disabilities. The goal is to support growth and development for all babies while providing psychosocial support for high risk mothers and infants and serving as a consultant for their primary care providers.
